A Castle Adventure

In
London, near the river Thames, lived the George family. Mum and dad decided that
this summer school holiday, they would visit the countryside for a holiday.
The holidays came and they started to plan where they were going to stay.
“Mum, dad, Jack” called Jim. He had been on the net and had found a perfect
place for what they wanted…”And there is a swimming pool and loads of stuff”
said Jim. “Yeah” everybody yelled and they booked their holiday.
The
next day they started to pack. “Everybody in the car!” mum told everyone
else. They travelled and travelled until they were out of London and on a
countryside road. They were half-way and stopped to have lunch. Finally
they arrived at Castle Forest Camp site, (it was called Castle
Forest because of the ,said to be, haunted castle at the other
end.)

They
unpacked and were inside. Dad cooked tea (it was delicious), and the rest of
them ate it. Mum told the boys, “you two have got until 8:00pm exploring
OK?”. “Yes mum!”
The
boys decided they would go and visit the castle. They had to go through the
forest’s deepest and darkest part. They had marked their route on a map of
Castle Forest Campsite. So they boys set off to the haunted castle.
They
had walked to the car park and then they had passed the main building and
were in the forest. They were now very far into the forest, just next to
the deepest, darkest part of it.

“What
was that?” asked Jack.
“What” Jim said as nervously as Jack.
“That noise I heard” shivered a frightened Jack.
“I - don’t - know” whispered Jim.
“RUN!” they both shouted. Jim looked back and said, “I - think
-that’s - our – problem!”
Behind
them was a giant slithering, at high speed, snake! They tripped over a
root. The snake had now caught up with them both.
“HELP!”
they shouted, but they were too far into the forest for anyone to hear them.
“AARGH!”
The snake had …. Left them!? And they were falling through a trap door and
down a slide and into the dungeons of the castle. Not what they had
expected!
“Come
on”, called Jim, who had found a staircase leading to ground level. They
walked up into a grubby, dusty castle-like room that hadn’t been touched for
ages.
“I
don’t like this place”, said Jack looking very scared. “It’s OK”. Jim tried
to say this bravely but couldn’t. They walked along a spooky stone
corridor. There were pictures of people on the walls and the only light was
Jim’s torch. There were candles on the walls, but they hadn’t been touched
for years.

To
them it felt like they had walked for an hour, but they had only been
walking for 5 minutes. In front of them was the main door. “I suppose we’d
better get going then”, said Jack. “It’s nearly 8 O’Clock.” They were a
foot away from the door when… “BOO!” said a voice.
“GHOST!”
cried the boys. They ran through the doors and into the dark forest, the
ghost still chasing them. They ran and ran until their legs ached. “The
end of the forest is ahead” Jim told Jack. The boys were now exhausted.
They reached the end of the forest. Jim looked back expecting to see the
ghost still chasing them, but the ghost was in pain. It was dying from the
sun-light! “We’re safe!” yelled Jack, jumping for joy.
The
boys got back to the tent. They were over time though. “You’re late”,
shouted mum. “We had a bit of an adventure though”, Jim said to his mum.
The boys started to tell their parents about their big adventure, but they
didn’t believe the bit about the ghost though! |
